Brigadier General Sage is a career Fighter Pilot with previous assignments at NATO HQ, SHAPE, EUCOM, and the US Air Force Headquarters at the Pentagon.

He has commanded at every level, including his recent deployment to the Middle East where he commanded a deployed combat wing in Jordan.

As an operational pilot, he has over 4,600 flight hours, with 1,200 combat hours, and has participated in operations Northern Watch, Deliberate Forge, Allied Force, Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, and Inherent Resolve. He also served as a Naval Flight Instructor while stationed aboard Naval Air Station Whiting Field.

His joint and multinational assignments include Senior Military Assistant to the Deputy Chair of the NATO Military Committee, Senior Special Assistant and Executive Officer to the Commander, US European Command and SACEUR, and Deputy US Military Representative to NATO. He was also a National Defence Fellow at Harvard University.

His awards and decorations include the Defence Superior Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, and the Bronze Star.

Brigadier General Sage is married to Jessica and they have five children. When not generating another day of peace, he enjoys traveling across Europe.
