Brigadier General Jozsef Szucs took up his appointment as Executive Coordinator of the International Military Staff and Secretary of the NATO Military Committee in October 2023.

He served initially as a senior engineer of an Automatic Data Processing system and, during the following years, as an operational officer and later as a deputy commander of the radar battalion.

He earned his master's degree in the field of Air Force operations and tactics from the National Defence Academy in 1995. Following his graduation, he served as the commander of the radar battalion.

Thereafter, he went on to serve as the senior operation officer at the Air Force Staff HQ level. After working years on preparations for NATO accession he joined as a Chief of Staff later became the Commander of the 54th Air Surveillance and Control regiment.

In July 2007, he began his studies at the US National Defence University in Washington DC and earned National Resource Management master's degree.

He gained his first executive coordination experience as a DIRSO at EUFOR Althea HQ leading multinational teams. His experience covers a broad variety of coordination of internal and external staff work and ensure the correct initiation, dissemination and follow-up of Command Group directed policies, directives and guidance.

From 2011 to 2018, Brigadier General Szucs commanded the Air Command and Control Centre at Air Force, where he has benefited in multiagency and multinational environments dealing with complex issues as well as of the interrelations between operational and defence planning.

In 2018, he joined as a Managing Director at the National University of Public Service with direct responsibility of military pilot training system. His personal commitment and balanced analysis have greatly contributed to the system development.

Before taking over as Executive Coordinator of the NATO International Military Staff, Brigadier General Szucs was the Deputy Military Representative of Hungary to the NATO and EU Military Committees, from September 2020 to July 2023.

He is married to Éva with adult son.

His interests include long distance running, reading history and leadership studies, being an enthusiastic supporter of the Veszprem and the National Handball Team.
