Current position:

Minister Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative of Belgium to NATO (since 1 December 2018).

Previous positions:

Diplomatic Director at the Cabinet of the Minister of Defense and Public Service of Belgium (from 31 October 2014 until 30 November 2018), and Defense Policy Director (since 1 July 2015 until 30 November 2018).

Counselor of Embassy, Department for Security Policy of the Federal Public Service of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of Belgium, dealing with NATO matters (2014).

Deputy Director of the OSCE Conflict Prevention Centre and head of its Policy Support Service, dealing with security and stability in the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian regions including protracted conflicts, and overseeing the work of OSCE field operations in South East Europe, Eastern Europe, Caucasus, and Central Asia (2008-20 1 3).

Counselor of Embassy, Deputy Permanent Representative of Belgium to the OSCE in Vienna (2002-2008), including during the Belgian OSCE Chairmanship in 2006.

First Secretary of Embassy, Permanent Delegation of Belgium to NATO, dealing with conventional arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation, weapons of mass destruction, NATO enlargement, relations with Partner countries (1997-2002).

Secretary of Embassy, Department for Peace and Security, Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Belgium (1994-1997), dealing with NATO and WEU (including Belgian WEU Chairmanship in 1996).

Secretary of Embassy, Permanent Delegation of Belgium to the EU, dealing with relations with Russia, the CIS and Eastern Europe, as well as common trade policy; including Belgian EU Presidency (1993).

Joined the diplomatic career in 1991, serving at the UN Department of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Belgium, dealing with UN Security Council issues during the Belgian membership of the UNSC, and at the Permanent Delegation of Belgium to the UN organizations in Geneva (WHO, ILO, GAIT) (1992).

Assistant for Public International Law at the university of Leuven, Prof. Dr. Eric Suy, former UN Under Secretary General for Legal Affairs and Director of the UN Geneva Office (1990-1991 ).

Education:

Licentiate of Law (University of Leuven, Belgium), with specialization in public international law.
Special Licentiate in International Politics (University of Antwerp, Belgium).

Professional fluency in English and French. Knowledge of German.
