Opening remarks
by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at the start of the meeting of the North Atlantic Council at the level of NATO Foreign Ministers
(As delivered)
So good afternoon.
As you know more than 90% of the people in the European Union live in a NATO country and we face the same security challenges: an arc of instability around our borders. So it is more important than ever before that we cooperate with each other.
In recent years, we have made significant progress and today we will agree on new measures to strengthen our cooperation. These include military mobility, bolstering resilience and cyber defence and strengthening our cooperation in countering terrorist threats.
We will also discuss how recent EU decisions on defence can complement NATO’s work, and make all our nations safer.
And this ends the public part of this meeting, so I thank the media for being here and then we will continue in just a moment.
