Today the Secretary General of NATO H.E. Mr. Jaap de Hoop Scheffer and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Belgium H.E. Mr. Menouar Alem signed the exchange of letters for the contribution of Morocco to Operation Active Endeavour.

During the signing ceremony at the NATO Headquarters in Brussels the Secretary General said that: "this agreement testifies in an indisputable way to our common determination to fight terrorism, which affects both your country and the countries of the Alliance altogether".

At their June 2004 Istanbul Summit NATO's Heads of State and government decided to offer Mediterranean Dialogue countries the possibility to contribute to Operaction Active Endeavour. This Operation aims to detect, deter and protect against terrorist activity in the Mediterranean sea. Morocco is a very active member of NATO's Mediterranean Dialogue, both in its political and practical cooperation.
