NATO Secretary General begins official visit to Germany

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has arrived in Berlin, where he will discuss current security challenges and priorities with Chancellor Angela Merkel. On Wednesday (14 January 2015), Mr Stoltenberg will also attend sessions of the German parliament and meet key cabinet ministers.

Mr Stoltenberg began his trip to Germany with a keynote address at the Die Welt economic summit in Berlin on Tuesday evening (13 January 2015). He discussed NATO’s role in an uncertain world, and the importance of investing in defence.

On Wednesday morning, Mr Stoltenberg visited the German parliament, where he participated in sessions of the Foreign Policy Committee and the Defence Committee of the Bundestag. Later in the day, the Secretary General will have a working lunch with Chancellor Merkel, and hold separate talks with Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen.
