Change of command at Allied Command Transformation

French General Stéphane Abrial took over the position of Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT) from US General James Mattis on 9 September. NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen formally carried out the change of command, which took place on board of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower close to the ACT Headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia.

Release of General James N. Mattis as Supreme Allied Commander Transformation

On 24 July 2009, NATO concurred to the release of General James N. Mattis, United States Marine Corps, as Supreme Allied Commander Transformation. In a letter from the President of the United States of America to the NATO Secretary General, who is Chairman of the Defence Planning Committee, the President asked DPC member states to agree to release General Mattis who has completed his term in this position.

2009 NATO Legal Conference in Strasbourg, France

The annual NATO Legal Conference took place in Strasbourg, France, from 8 to 12 June. General Mattis, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, delivered the opening presentation and discussed the role of today’s legal advisors within NATO as the Alliance and its partners face complex threats and new challenges.
