Secretary General sets out NATO’s role in responding to Europe’s refugee and migrant crisis

Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has outlined NATO’s role in supporting international efforts to stem illegal trafficking and illegal migration in the Aegean Sea. In an opinion-editorial published in newspapers belonging to LENA (Leading European Newspaper Alliance) on Friday (26 February 2016), the Secretary General explains that Allied ships will conduct reconnaissance, monitoring and surveillance, providing critical information to Greek and Turkish authorities, as well as Frontex, the European Union’s border agency. NATO Defence Ministers Agree on NATO support to assist with the Refugee and Migrant Crisis

NATO Defence Ministers agreed that NATO will provide support to assist with the refugee and migrant crisis on Thursday (11 February 2016). “The goal is to participate in the international efforts to stem the illegal trafficking and illegal migration in the Aegean,” Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said.
