First visit to Mauritania by Chairman of the NATO Military Committee

General Petr Pavel, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee visited Nouakchott, Mauritania from 29-30 May 2018. While Mauritania has been a partner of NATO’s Mediterranean Dialogue since 1995, the visit marks the first time a Chairman of the NATO Military Committee visits Mauritania as Mauritania and NATO seek to enhance their practical cooperation.

NATO Military Committee visit to Ukraine sends strong message of enduring commitment and support

On 18 & 19 April, the NATO Military Committee visited Lviv in Ukraine. During the two day trip, NATO’s Military Representatives met with General Viktor Muzhenko, Chief of Defence and with Mr Alexander Hug, Deputy Head of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine. The Military Committee also visited the National Lviv Land Forces Academy and the Yavoriv International Peacekeeping and Security Centre in Starychi where they received briefings from representatives of the Multinational Joint Commission and the Joint Multinational Training Group Ukraine. The 29 Allies concluded their visit with a joint NATO Military Committee meeting with Ukraine.

Chairman of the NATO Military Committee visits Transatlantic Allies, United States and Canada

From 4 to 12 March, General Pavel, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, visited the United States and Canada. In the US, General Pavel engaged in a discussion with the students of the West Point Military Academy before meeting with General Dunford, Chief of the Joint Staff. In Canada, General Pavel met with General Vance, Canadian Chief of Defence and attended discussions at the Canadian Armed Forces College. The visit concluded in Norfolk where CMC held talks with the Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, General Mercier.

Chairman of NATO Military Committee visits Estonia affirming NATO’s commitment to collective defence

Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, General Petr Pavel, visited Estonia from 13 to 15 December 2017. During his visit, General Pavel met with HE Mrs Kersti Kaljulaid, President of Estonia, HE Mr Jüri Luik, Minister of Defence, General Riho Terras, Commander of Estonian Defence Forces as well as members of the National Defence Committee. While in Estonia, General Pavel also visited the NATO Force Integration Unit, NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence, Baltic Defence College and NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence Battle Group stationed in Tapa.

Chairman of the Military Committee commends Bulgaria for being a reliable Ally

General Petr Pavel, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, visited Bulgaria on 30 Nov-2 Dec. During his visit, General Pavel met with HE Mr Rumer Radev, President of Bulgaria, HE Mr Boyko Borisov, Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Lieutenant General (ret) Zapryanov, Deputy Minister of Defence, and Lieutenant General Andrey Botsev, Chief of Defence. The Chairman also gave a lecture at the National Defence College.

The Allied Chiefs of Defence have elected Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach, Chief of Defence Staff of the United Kingdom's Armed Forces as their next Chairman of the NATO Military Committee.

Chiefs of Defence provide direction and guidance on key NATO priorities

General Petr Pavel, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, opened the Military Committee Conference by thanking Albania for its hospitality and for all the hard work that had gone into the hosting and organising of the event. General Pavel also expressed his gratitude for ''Albania's contributions to NATO's shared security and the valuable role Albania plays in promoting cooperation and stability in the Western Balkans''.

Chairman of the NATO Military Committee visits Azerbaijan

Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, General Petr Pavel visited Baku, Azerbaijan on 7 September 17. He met with the Chief of Defence of the Azerbaijan Armed Forces and First Deputy Defence Minister, General Najmeddin Sadikov.

Chairman of the NATO Military Committee visits Romania and Exercise Saber Guardian

From 12-15 July 2017, General Petr Pavel, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee visited Romania where he met with the President, Mr. Klaus Iohannis, the Minister of National Defence, Mr. Adrian Țuțuianu, and the Chief of General Staff, General Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă. General Pavel also visited the NATO enhanced Air Policing Mission and observed the US-led multinational exercise Saber Guardian 17.

Deputy Chairman of the NATO Military Committee attends UN Chiefs of Defence Conference

On 6-7 July 2017, Lieutenant General Steven M. Shepro, Deputy Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, represented NATO at the second edition of the United Nations Chiefs of Defence Conference in New York.
