Chairman of the NATO Military Committee reiterates NATO’s enduring commitment to Georgia On 28-29 April 2021, the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach was in Georgia to meet the President, H.E. Salome Zourabishvili, the Prime Minister H.E. Irakli Garibashvili, the Minister of Defence Mr Juansher Burchuladze and the Chief of Defence Major General Giorgi Matiashvili. He also attended a special ceremony to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Georgian Defence Forces. |

Admiral Bauer will take up the position following the end of Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach’s tenure in June 2021. |

Chairman of NATO Military Committee commends Lithuania's strong support of NATO On 24-26 September, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, visited Vilnius, Lithuania. While in Lithuania, the Chairman met with Lieutenant General Valdemaras Rupsys, Chief of Defence of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, held discussions with senior military representatives of Lithuania, visited the Lithuanian Parliament and met with His Excellency, Mr. Viktoras Pranckietis, Speaker of the Parliament. The Chairman also toured NATO’s Centre of Excellence for Energy Security before receiving a briefing on its latest projects. Topics of discussion during the visit focused on the Deterrence and Defence of the Euro-Atlantic area, fair burden sharing, and increasing NATO and National resilience. |

The NATO Chiefs of Defence hold first virtual meeting in NATO Military Committee history On 14 May 2020, for the first time in history, the NATO Military Committee including the most recent NATO Ally the Republic of North Macedonia, held a virtual meeting in Chiefs of Defence format. They discussed the Alliance’s ongoing missions and operations, future planning and requirements as well as the current global Covid-19 crisis, its impact on allied activities and NATO’s support to the response efforts. |
