Chair of the NATO Military Committee visits Latvia on the 20th anniversary of its NATO membership On 27-29 March 2024, the Chair of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, visited Latvia upon the invitation of the Chief of Defence, Lieutenant General Leonīds Kalniņš. While in Riga, Admiral Bauer met with the President, Minister of Defence and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, in order to discuss collective deterrence and defence and the implementation of the decisions taken at the Vilnius summit last year. Admiral Bauer also participated in public events to celebrate Latvia’s NATO 20 year-membership. |

NATO Deputy Secretary General hails Bulgaria’s contributions to stability in the Black Sea NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană travelled to Bulgaria on Friday (10 November 2023) for the annual exercise “Iron Strike” conducted by the NATO multinational battle group stationed in the country. “We have just witnessed a powerful display of NATO capabilities and interoperability, with troops from Albania, host-nation Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Türkiye, and the United States, all working together for our shared security,” Mr Geoană said. |

NATO steps up Baltic Sea patrols after subsea infrastructure damage NATO and Allies are stepping up patrols in the Baltic Sea following recent damage to undersea infrastructure in the region. The increased measures include additional surveillance and reconnaissance flights, including with maritime patrol aircraft, NATO AWACS planes, and drones. A fleet of four NATO minehunters is also being dispatched to the area. |
