Fighting COVID-19 with science

Since the start of the pandemic, NATO’s Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Programme has tapped into its broad network of scientists and research institutions in NATO and partner countries to find innovative solutions against the spread of the coronavirus. The Programme was established with similar objectives in mind: to address emerging and ongoing security challenges, such as the one posed by the current pandemic, through collaborative initiatives.

Coronavirus response: Secretary General welcomes Allies’ support for North Macedonia

In a phone call with President Stevo Pendarovski on Tuesday (7 April 2020), NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed that North Macedonia is now participating in all NATO meetings as a full member of the Alliance, following accession on 27 March 2020 as NATO’s 30th member.

North Macedonia joins NATO as 30th Ally

Today (27 March 2020), North Macedonia became NATO’s newest member, upon depositing its instrument of accession to the North Atlantic Treaty with the US State Department in Washington DC. NATO Allies signed North Macedonia’s Accession Protocol in February 2019, after which all 29 national parliaments voted to ratify the country’s membership.

NATO and North Macedonia strengthen cooperation through consequence management exercise

“NATO’s consequence management field exercises are highly recognized internationally and are characterized by their inclusive planning process and wide participation. The contributions and involvement of representatives from Allied and partner nations, International Organisations, Non-Governmental and National Organisations are key to its value and its success,” NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Operations, Mr. Jonathan Parish said today (19 December 2019) in Skopje. “In these exercises, nations come together from across the Alliance, and from around the world, to practise international response to large scale disasters; and next year, from 20 to 25 September, for the first time, they will do so here in this country,” he added.
