19 Sep. 2023 | ![]() | To mark the upcoming 23rd anniversary of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, the NATO International Military Staff Office of the Gender Advisor (IMS GENAD) has launched a new series of deep dives focusing on the Gender Perspective in different geographical regions. On 13 September 2023, the first session of this series was held with a focus on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. It explored where and how the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda is prevalent among military and peacekeeping forces in the region, as well as the challenges that remain on its way. The discussion further examined what NATO is doing and can do in the future to support a comprehensive Gender Perspective in the region, highlighting specific best practices learned from different national contexts. |
12 Jul. 2023 | ![]() | On the 12 July 2023, the NATO International Military Staff Office of the Gender Advisor hosted its twelfth Deep Dive Session focused on Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Defence and the Gender Perspective. The session discussed how CBRN threats affect men, women, boys and girls differently while highlighting how NATO is considering the gender perspective in force protection and protection of civilians to increase military readiness and support national resilience against CBRN threats. |
25 May. 2023 | ![]() | On 23rd May 2023, the Director General of the NATO International Military Staff (IMS), Lieutenant General Janusz Adamczak hosted the handover ceremony for the Chair of the NATO Committee on Gender Perspectives (NCGP). Lieutenant Colonel Diana Morais (Portugal) handed the position over to the Chair-Elect Lieutenant Colonel Jane Male (USA). |
16 May. 2023 | ![]() | On the 16th of May 2023, the NATO International Military Staff Office of the Gender Advisor hosted its eleventh Deep Dive Session focused on the integration of the gender perspective and Women, Peace and Security themes into the different cycles of intelligence gathering. Ms Laura Coy, the Gender Focal Point (GFP) for J2 in U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), and Mr Christopher Case, Hybrid Threats Analyst for J2 in SHAPE, provided subject matter expertise on these topics. |

Deep Dive Recap: Counter Terrorism and the Gender Perspective On the 28th March 2023, the NATO International Military Staff Office of the Gender Advisor hosted its tenth Deep Dive Session, this time focused on Counter Terrorism and the Gender Perspective. The session discussed key gender considerations integral to understanding terrorism in order to enhance the effectiveness of counter terrorism measures. The session further highlighted NATO’s role in global counter terrorism efforts and considered further opportunities to integrate the gender perspective into counter ¬terrorism strategies. |

Deep Dive Recap: Combatting Trafficking in Human Beings and the Gender Perspective On the 17th of February 2023, the International Military Staff (IMS) Gender Advisor, Lieutenant Colonel Katherine Prudhoe and staff hosted their monthly Deep Dive Session discussing the relevancy of the gender perspective in combatting trafficking of human beings (CTHB) as one of the five policy areas covered by NATO’s approach to human security to be integrated into NATO’s core tasks. Over 70 participants joined in, both in person and online. |

Deep Dive Recap: Children and Armed Conflict and the Gender Perspective On the 17th January 2023, the NATO International Military Staff Office of the Gender Advisor (GENAD) hosted its eighth Deep Dive Session, this time focused on Children and Armed Conflict (CAAC) and the Gender Perspective. The session highlighted NATO’s role in addressing CAAC while integrating a Gender Perspective, along with the military challenges to consider when addressing violations against girls and boys in a conflict setting. |

Women, Peace and Security in Professional Military Education On 15 November 2022, the Canadian Defence Academy, in partnership with the Swedish Defence University and the George C. Marshall Centre, hosted an event at NATO HQ, dedicated to Women, Peace and Security (WPS) in the Professional Military Education. This event was organised under the auspices of the Partnership for Peace Consortium of Defence Academies working group on WPS and co-chaired by Canada and Sweden. |
