NATO announces nomination of General Philippe Lavigne, French Air and Space Force, as Supreme Allied Commander Transformation

On 28 May 2021, the North Atlantic Council approved the nomination of General Philippe Lavigne, French Air and Space Force, to the post of Supreme Allied Commander Transformation. General Lavigne is currently serving as the French Air and Space Force Chief of Staff. General Lavigne will assume the appointment as successor to General André Lanata, French Air and Space Force, at a change of command ceremony at the Headquarters of Supreme Allied Command Transformation in Norfolk, Virginia in September 2021.

NATO Secretary General, Ambassadors and Military Commanders attend ACT change-of-command ceremony

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, together with Deputy Secretary General Ambassador Alexander Vershbow, Ambassadors from the North Atlantic Council and members of the Military Committee attended Wednesday’s (30 September 2015) change-of-command ceremony at Allied Command Transformation (ACT) headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia. The ceremony marked the official handover of the post of Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT) from General Jean-Paul Paloméros to General Denis Mercier.

French Air Force General Jean-Paul Paloméros officially assumed command of NATO's Supreme Allied Command Transformation on Friday (28 September) during a handover ceremony in Norfolk, Virginia attended by NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the Deputy Secretary General Ambassador Alexander Vershbow, the French deputy Minister of Defence Kader Arif, Allied Permanent Representatives, the Chairman of the Military Committee General Knud Bartels, and US Admiral James A. Winnefeld, Deputy Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Change of command at Allied Command Transformation

French General Stéphane Abrial took over the position of Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT) from US General James Mattis on 9 September. NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen formally carried out the change of command, which took place on board of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower close to the ACT Headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia.
