NATO Deputy Secretary General and Chairperson-in-Office of the OSCE discuss cooperation in challenging times

On Tuesday (31 January), NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia Bujar Osmani in his capacity as 2023 Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). Together they discussed NATO-OSCE partnership, the situation in the Western Balkans, as well as the war in Ukraine.

NATO participates in Albanian OSCE Chairmanship High-Level Conference on combating corruption

More than 100 high-level participants, ministers and deputy ministers were invited by the Albanian OSCE Chairmanship to share best practices and lessons learned at the virtual conference “Good Governance and the Fight against Corruption in the Digital Era”, on 6 and 7 July 2020. NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Operations Jonathan Parish shared NATO’s experience on the impact of corruption on stability and security.

Secretary General welcomes Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia and Chairman-in-Office of the OSCE

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia, Mr. Miroslav Lajčák, on Tuesday (29 January 2019) to discuss regional issues and defence investment. The Secretary General thanked Slovakia for its long-term engagement in Afghanistan and for its wider commitment to boosting Alliance security.

Lithuania hosts arms control inspectors from Russia and Belarus

As NATO forces trained across the Baltic states and Poland in exercise Saber Strike 2018, Lithuania hosted arms control inspectors from Russia and Belarus. From 11-14 June, five inspectors visited various units of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. They also met with Croatian troops participating in exercise Saber Strike, as part of NATO’s multinational battlegroup in Lithuania.

Deputy Secretary General stresses value of OSCE dialogue in Vienna

NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller stressed the value of the OSCE as a forum for dialogue in a keynote speech at the Annual Security Review Conference in Vienna on Tuesday (27 June 2017). “The OSCE is a pillar of the international rules-based order, and essential for continued peace and security in Europe,” she said.

Strengthening NATO-EU-OSCE security dialogue on arms control

On 10 February 2017, NATO convened an informal workshop on how to reinforce security dialogue in the Euro-Atlantic region. It focused more specifically on the importance of three major regional organisations – NATO, the European Union (EU) and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) – in supporting each other to improve existing arms control mechanisms.

Participating in a panel discussion on ‘Preventing and Managing Close Military Encounters in Times of Crisis’, Ambassador Vershbow stressed the importance of modernising the Vienna Document on military transparency.
