The NATO Military Committee underscores importance of the Transatlantic Bond with visit to Washington

The NATO Military Committee led by its Chairman, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach visited Washington from 13-15 March 2019. The programme started with a visit to the Pentagon and Capitol Hill, followed by a table discussion with the Atlantic Council and concluded with a Wreath Laying at Arlington Cemetery.

NATO Military Committee visits Transatlantic Commands

The NATO Military Committee conducted their annual meeting at the NATO Allied Command Transformation, in Norfolk on the 11th and 12th of March 2019. The programme also included a visit of the recently stood up Joint Forces Command and the USS Harry S Truman, currently assigned to the US Second Fleet.

NATO Military Committee visits the Allied Land Command in Turkey

On 20-21 February 2019, the NATO Military Committee led by its Chairman, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach visited the NATO Allied Land Command in Izmir, Turkey. The visit was also an opportunity to meet the Aegean Army Commander General Abdullah Recep and other high-ranking Turkish military officials.

NATO Chiefs of Defence focus on NATO’s Readiness and its Deterrence and Defence Posture

The NATO Chiefs of Defence concluded their two-day meeting focused on NATO’s Military Strategy, the Alliance’s Readiness and Deterrence as well as on the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan, the Western Balkans, NATO- Georgia relations, and Alliance Strategic Developments and Warfare Development.

Lieutenant General Hans-Werner Wiermann to become next Director General of the NATO International Military Staff

The Allied Chiefs of Defence have elected Lieutenant General Hans-W. Wiermann of the German Armed Forces to be the next Director of the NATO International Military Staff (DGIMS). The DGIMS is nominated by the NATO Chiefs of Defence to head the Alliance’s International Military Staff for a term of three years. Lieutenant General Wiermann will take up the position in the summer of 2019 when Lieutenant General Jan Broeks’ tenure ends.

NATO Military Chiefs meet to discuss future military strategy

The NATO Military Committee met on 28-30 September 2018 in Warsaw, Poland in Chiefs of Defence format. Discussions focused on Allied operations, missions and activities, the development of NATO’s Military Strategy, Responsiveness, Reinforcement and the NATO Readiness Initiative, as well as the Alliance’s ongoing modernization.

Deputy Chairman of the NATO Military Committee visits NATO’s Commands in Italy

From 23 to 24 August 2018, Deputy Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Lieutenant General Steven Shepro was in Italy where he visited the NATO Joint Forces Command in Naples, the NATO Strategic Direction South Hub and the NATO Alliance Ground Surveillance Force in at the Sigonella Air Base.

NATO Chiefs of Defence inaugural meeting in new NATO Headquarters focuses on Deterrence and Defence, Modernisation and Projecting Stability

The twenty-nine Allied Chiefs of Defence met in the new NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium today (16 May 2018) to review and discuss key military deliverables ahead of the forthcoming Defence Ministerial in June and the Heads of State and Government Summit in July. Discussions focused on NATO’s Strategic Direction South, Deterrence and Defence, and Allied Modernisation.

Inaugural Meeting of the NATO Military Committee Working Group on Strategic Communications

On 1 & 2 March 2018, the NATO International Military Staff hosted the first official Military Committee Working Group (MCWG) on Strategic Communications (StratCom). The 29 Allied Nations were invited to attend and share their perspectives on StratCom. They received briefings from senior military and civilian experts from the NATO International Military Staff, the NATO Public Diplomacy Division, SHAPE and ACT as well from the Director of the StratCom Centre of Excellence and several Allied Nations. The Director General of the NATO International Military Staff (DGIMS), Lieutenant General Jan Broeks officially opened the meeting on 1st March.
