IISS Manama Dialogue conference: NATO reaches out to southern neighbourhood From 17 to 19 November 2023, the Chair of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, and the Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy, Ambassador Boris Ruge, attended the IISS Manama Dialogue in Bahrain. NATO’s key message at this conference was that it wants to find ways to deepen Partnerships in its Southern neighbourhood. Admiral Bauer expressed this during a panel discussion on “Strategies and Capabilities”. In addition, the NATO delegation had a number of bilateral meetings with representatives of Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, France and Germany. |

19 Sep. 2023 | ![]() | To mark the upcoming 23rd anniversary of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, the NATO International Military Staff Office of the Gender Advisor (IMS GENAD) has launched a new series of deep dives focusing on the Gender Perspective in different geographical regions. On 13 September 2023, the first session of this series was held with a focus on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. It explored where and how the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda is prevalent among military and peacekeeping forces in the region, as well as the challenges that remain on its way. The discussion further examined what NATO is doing and can do in the future to support a comprehensive Gender Perspective in the region, highlighting specific best practices learned from different national contexts. |

NATO and Kuwait hold talks with partners on climate change and security Climate change is one of the defining challenges of our times, and NATO has been actively engaging experts, civil society, and other groups to discuss the nexus between climate change and security. On Monday (30 January), the NATO-Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI) Regional Centre in Kuwait hosted the first ever discussion with Allied and Partner experts on emerging climate challenges and how to tackle them together. |
