08 Nov. 2024 | ![]() | From 4 to 8 November 2024, the NATO Military Committee was in Qatar for a series of high-level engagements and visits of Qatar’s military education and training facilities. This visit marked the first time the NATO Military Committee travelled to Qatar. The high-level engagements that took place during the visit involved the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs, H.E. Dr Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah and the Chief of Staff of the Qatar Armed Forces, Lieutenant-General Salem bin Hamad bin Aqeel Al-Nabit. The goal of the visit was to discuss ongoing and future strategic and operational cooperation between Qatar and NATO. |

Hosted by the Crown Prince of Kuwait, his Highness Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Sabah, the event celebrated 20 years of NATO-Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI). It brought together NATO’s four ICI partners (Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates) as well as Saudi Arabia, Oman and the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council. |

Allied Foreign Ministers discuss report by Group of Experts on NATO’s southern neighbourhood Meeting in Brussels on 4 and 5 April, Foreign Ministers discussed the findings of the review conducted by an independent Group of Experts on NATO’s approach on its southern neighbourhood. The review highlights the linkage between the security of NATO’s southern neighbourhoods – North Africa, the Middle East, the Sahel region and adjacent regions – and that of NATO Allies. It also underscores that deep-rooted localized challenges are now exacerbated by global strategic competition and threat-multipliers, such as climate change. |
