The Director General of NATO IMS visits Azerbaijan

From 5 to 9 October 2024, the Director General of the NATO International Military Staff (DGIMS), Lieutenant General Janusz Adamczak visited NATO Partner Azerbaijan. While in Baku, he met with military leaders and senior officials. Their discussions included military cooperation, defence reform and how to strengthen regional security and stability.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg arrived in Baku on Sunday (17 March 2024), kicking off a three-day, tri-nation tour of the South Caucasus. Meeting with President Ilham Aliyev, the Secretary General welcomed Azerbaijan’s long-standing collaboration with the Alliance, saying he looked forward to further strengthening the partnership.

NATO political consultations with Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia

Last week, the NATO Secretary General's Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, Mr. Javier Colomina, travelled to the South Caucasus, visiting Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. He held political consultations with the President and Prime Minister of Armenia, the Prime Minister of Georgia and the President of Azerbaijan, as well as other senior Government officials.

President of Azerbaijan visits NATO HQ

The NATO Secretary General welcomed President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan to NATO Headquarters on Tuesday 14 December for talks on the Alliance’s partnership with Azerbaijan, and on the security situation in the South Caucasus region. President Aliyev also met with the 30 Allied ambassadors in the North Atlantic Council.

New NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia pays his first visit to the South Caucasus

Last week, the new NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, Mr. Javier Colomina, travelled to the South Caucasus, visiting Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia to introduce himself in his new capacity. He discussed regional security issues with high-level civilian and military officials, took stock of NATO’s relations with these important partners and shared views on future political dialogue and cooperation, especially in the context of the ongoing preparations for the 2022 NATO Summit in Madrid.

Statement by James Appathurai, the Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia

NATO is deeply concerned by reports of large-scale military hostilities along the line of contact in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone. The sides should immediately cease hostilities, which have already caused civilian casualties. There is no military solution to this conflict. The parties should resume negotiations towards a peaceful resolution. NATO supports the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group.

Coronavirus response: Poland provides medical aid to Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan to tackle global pandemic

As part of Allied solidarity and support to NATO members and partner countries, Poland has recently delivered critical medical assistance to Georgia, consisting of around 6,800 protective face shields and 5,400 litres of disinfectant detergent for hands and surface equipment, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

NATO Deputy Secretary General meets Defence Minister of Azerbaijan

NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană met the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, on Friday 25 October 2019. The Deputy Secretary General thanked Minister Hasanov for Azerbaijan’s contributions to the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan.
