NATO Deputy Secretary General meets Defence Minister of Azerbaijan
NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană met the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, on Friday 25 October 2019. The Deputy Secretary General thanked Minister Hasanov for Azerbaijan’s contributions to the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan.

25 years of NATO - Azerbaijan partnership: Director General of NATO’s International Military Staff visits Azerbaijan
Lt Gen Jan Broeks, Director General of NATO’s International Military Staff visited Azerbaijan from 16-19 April 2019. During his visit, the Director General met with the Minister of Defence, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, the Chief of the International Military Cooperation Department, Major General Huseyn Mahmudov and the Commanders of the War College of the Azerbaijan Armed Forces and the Military Academy. While visiting the War College and the Military Academy, Lt Gen Broeks used the opportunity to address students and faculty members.

Secretary General welcomes President of Azerbaijan to NATO Headquarters
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan to NATO Headquarters on Thursday (23 November 2017) for talks on the Alliance’s partnership with Azerbaijan and regional security in the South Caucasus. President Aliyev also met with the 29 Allied ambassadors in the North Atlantic Council. Mr. Stoltenberg praised Azerbaijan’s commitment to NATO’s Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan and its decision to increase troop contributions next year. He underlined that NATO’s practical cooperation with Azerbaijan is founded on a commitment to democratic values and covers many areas, from capability development to energy security.

Chairman of the NATO Military Committee visits Azerbaijan
Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, General Petr Pavel visited Baku, Azerbaijan on 7 September 17. He met with the Chief of Defence of the Azerbaijan Armed Forces and First Deputy Defence Minister, General Najmeddin Sadikov.

Promoting intercultural dialogue
NATO Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy Tacan Ildem attended the Fourth World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue organised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the government of Azerbaijan in Baku from 4 to 6 May 2017. The event aims to promote intercultural dialogue as a tool to improve human security, the conditions for peace, and sustainable development.

Supporting civilian oversight of the Afghan National Army and Police
Officials from the Afghan National Defence and Security Forces (ANDSF) are working with counterparts from NATO member and partner countries to improve the teaching related to the civilian oversight of the armed forces. Together with NATO, Azerbaijan recently hosted a first expert workshop to support curriculum development.

On 4 July 2006, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy, Jean Fournet, and the first deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, Abid Sharifov, officially inaugurated a melange conversion plant in Azerbaijan.
