NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană met the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia, Davit Tonoyan, on Thursday 24 October 2019. The Deputy Secretary General thanked Minister Tonoyan for Armenia’s contributions to the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan and NATO’s KFOR peacekeeping mission in Kosovo.

Relations with NATO started in 1992, when Armenia joined the North Atlantic Cooperation Council. This forum for dialogue was succeeded in 1997 by the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council, which brings together all Allies and partner countries in the Euro-Atlantic area. Bilateral cooperation began when Armenia joined the Partnership for Peace (PfP) programme in 1994.
