We are firmly committed to the preservation of effective international arms control, disarmament, and non-proliferation. We all agree that all states party to the Open Skies Treaty must fully implement their commitments and obligations. All NATO Allies are in full compliance with all provisions of the Treaty. |

Deputy Secretary General addresses NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Halifax NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller stressed the importance of Alliance unity in a keynote address to the 64th Annual Session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Halifax, Canada on Monday (19 November 2018). Noting that unity among allies has underpinned Euro-Atlantic security for almost seventy years, she thanked parliamentarians for their support for NATO. She said: “There is nothing stronger than this Alliance when it is united, and when our publics are behind it. In that, your support is essential.” |
25 Oct. 2018 | ![]() | Ambassadors in NATO’s North Atlantic Council met on Thursday (25 October 2018) to discuss the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, with the participation of senior officials from the US. Allies have repeatedly expressed concerns about the new Russian missile system, called the 9M729, or SSC-8. Today’s meeting was an opportunity for Allies to share views on the INF Treaty, and to assess the implications of Russia’s destabilising behaviour on our security. The United States has engaged Allies regularly on the state of the INF Treaty since 2014, when the US first declared Russia in violation. NATO Allies will continue to consult on this important issue. |

Latvia hosts arms control experts from Belarus, demonstrating transparency The Latvian Ministry of Defence hosted arms control experts from Belarus between 25 and 28 August 2018, demonstrating military transparency. The experts observed Exercise "Namejs 2018", in order to verify that the numbers of personnel and equipment involved were in line with rules set out in the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe's (OSCE) Vienna Document. |
