2004 Summer Champions
By LT Telligiannidis Theophylactos, Greek Army

From the 26th of July 2004 to 28th of Aug. 2004 the 501 Hellenic Mechanized Infantry Battalion has organized a series of CIMIC activities in its AOR, in accordance with the operation "2004 SUMMER CHAMPIONS" that had been scheduled, for this period, by the MNB (NE).

The battalion invested a great deal of effort in these activities to restore peace and enhance the cooperation between the two different ethnicities (KOA-KOS) in this area of Kosovo.

Activities were organized in the same spirit and with the same ideals as the then ongoing 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

The local population, and mainly the children, enjoyed every moment of these events. During these activities, battalion personnel were welcomed like heroes and above all, as friends.

Local teenagers joined the event also, playing Basketball and Chess.
The 501 Hellenic Mechanized Infantry Battalion has succeeded in staying involved with the community in its AOR through interesting activities, gaining their trust, appreciation and respect. The battalion goal is to continue to maintain good relations with the local population, and especially with the children.
