NATO Internship Programme

NATO International Military Staff,
NATO Agencies and Bodies

In addition to NATO International Staff, the International Military Staff and the following NATO Agencies and Bodies also offer internships via NATO HQ (please submit your application as stipulated in the Application section):

  • IMS (International Military Staff)

    The International Military Staff (IMS) provides executive support to the Military Committee, preparing assessments, evaluations and reports on all issues that form the basis of discussion and decisions in the Military Committee. The Staff is the essential link between the decision-making bodies of the Alliance, the two Strategic Commanders, national military delegations from NATO and Partner countries working in Brussels, and the civilian International Staff.
    Two IMS divisions offer internships :
    • Cooperation and Regional Security Division (C&RS)
      The C&RS Division serves as the focal point for military contacts and cooperation with Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC), Partnership for Peace (PfP), Mediterranean Dialogue (MD), and Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI) countries. The PfP Staff Element (PSE) is integrated within the Division as a separate branch, in which Partner officers work side-by-side with NATO colleagues as the focal point in the International Military Staff (IMS) for all elements of Partner country expertise related to the military aspects of PfP. It acts as the IMS' primary liaison with Partner Military Representatives and Partner Liaison Officers at NATO Headquarters

    • Office of the Public Affairs Advisor (PAA/IMS)
      The Office of the Public Affairs Advisor, International Military Staff (PAA/IMS) fulfils three roles :
      • promoting NATO’s Military Committee,
      • providing advice and support to the Chairman of the Military Committee, and
      • providing advice and guidance to the Director and Assistant Directors of the International Military Staff.

  • NAMSA (Capellen, Luxemburg)

    The NATO Maintenance and Supply Agency (NAMSA) is NATO’s principal logistics support management agency. NAMSA’s main task is to assist NATO nations by organizing common procurement and supply of spare parts and arranging maintenance and repair services necessary for the support of various weapon systems in their inventories. The Agency’s main role is in consolidating nations’ requirements, centralizing logistics management activities, conducting international competitive bidding processes and controlling the cost and quality of the services rendered to customers. In recent years, the Agency has become increasingly involved in providing logistical support for NATO operations, and in leading demilitarisation projects. http://www.namsa.nato.int

  • NSA

    The mission of the NATO Standardization Agency (NSA) is to initiate, coordinate, support and administer standardization activities conducted under the authority of the NATO Committee for Standardization (NCS). The NSA is also the Military Committees lead agent for the development, coordination and assessment of operational standardization. The NSA is located at NATO HQ in Brussels.   • NC3A

    With roots going back over 50 years, the mission of the NATO C3 Agency is to support NATO through the seamless provision of unbiased scientific support and common funded acquisition of Consultation, Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) capabilities. http://www.nc3a.nato.int/vacancies/index.html

  • SACT

    NATO’s Allied Command Transformation leads the Alliance’s continuous improvement of its capabilities to uphold its security interests. ACT’s priorities are primarily to transform NATO’s military capabilities, to prepare, support and sustain Alliance operations, as well as to implement NATO Response Force capabilities and assist transformation of partner capabilities. http://www.act.nato.int/content.asp?pageid=1220

  • SHAPE

    Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) near Mons, Belgium is the Headquarters of Allied Command Operations (ACO), one of NATO's two strategic military commands. ACO is commanded by the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) and responsible for all Alliance operations, ranging from the Straits of Gibraltar to Afghanistan. http://www.nato.int/shape/community/internship/index.ht
