1. Introduction :
Allied Committee 135 (AC/135) - the Group of
National Directors on Codification is pleased to present this
World Forum in association with its 100th Meeting.
The NATO Codification System (NCS) is one of
the notable successes of the past 50 years. This “common language
of logistics” has enabled Defence forces worldwide to describe,
identify and share materiel. From an initial 5 NATO members, it
now embraces over 60 nations, and its global inventory of over 17M
NATO Stock Numbers and 2M Suppliers represents the largest
materiel inventory database in existence.
But in a changing world with pressure on
resources, organisational turmoil, partnership demands and
competing priorities, the NCS needs to adapt and accommodate the
new realities. This World Forum will examine the Challenges for
the NCS in meeting these emerging requirements and how the
undoubted Opportunities can also be captured to enable the NCS, in
partnership and cooperation with key organisations and
initiatives, to better serve all customers and stakeholders.
2. Conference Venue :
Address:
Provinciaal Hof (Provincial Court)
Markt 3 B-8000 Bruges

The World Codification Forum 2011 takes place
at Provinciaal Hof (Provincial Court), which is a beautiful
neo-gothic complex located on the Market square of Bruges. The
Court used to house the Provincial Council of West-Flanders. The
building nowadays has a more ceremonial function and is the top
location in Bruges for dinners, meetings and expositions.
3. Conference Programme & Times :
The current Programme for the Forum is detailed
below. As well as presentations on specific topics it is intended
to make this as interactive as possible and to give delegates
opportunity to contribute their ideas and ask questions about any
aspect of Codification. There will be a number of parallel
discussion groups on topics such as the Benefits of Codification,
Data Management, Supplier-Sourced Codification, Sponsorship
Programmes, Total Asset Management, Future
Strategic Objectives for Codification as well as Training
opportunities for any delegates who would like to learn more about
how Codification works and how best to exploit the NATO
Codification Database (NMCRL).
