Ambassador Tacan Ildem

Ambassador Tacan Ildem was appointed Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy in March 2016. He advises the Secretary General on public diplomacy issues and directs the Public Diplomacy Division (PDD), which plays a key role in conveying the Alliance's strategic and political messages to opinion formers and to the public in general. PDD works to raise the Alliance's profile with audiences world-wide and to build support for Alliance operations and policies.

Ambassador Marjanne de Kwaasteniet

Ambassador Marjanne de Kwaasteniet is the Permanent Representative of the Netherlands to the North Atlantic Council since 2013. She holds a PhD in Political and Social Sciences from the European University Institute in Florenco, Italy. She was Ambassador, Netherlands Representative of the Political and Security Committee of the European Union, and Ambassador to the Kingdom of Jordan.

Ambassador Marriët Schuurman

Ambassador Marriët Schuurman was appointed the NATO Secretary General's Special Representative for Women, Peace and Security in October 2014. She is the high-level focal point on all aspects of NATO's contributions to the Women, Peace and Security agenda, with the aim to facilitate coordination and consistency in NATO's policies and activities and to take forward the implementation of the NATO/EAPC Policy and Action Plan on the Implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 and related Resolutions.

Carmen Romero

Carmen Romero was appointed NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy in October 2016. She joined NATO in May 2004 as Deputy Spokesperson and Head of Press and Media, a position she held for 12 years. She has also been Acting NATO Spokesperson, including during the Russia-Georgia war in August 2008. Prior to this, Carmen had a long career as the Foreign Affairs Correspondent for EFE News Agency based at the United Nations in Geneva, Moscow and Paris, covering events such as the revolution in Romania, the Fall of the Berlin Wall, the war in Chechnya, the crisis in Kosovo, and the NATO campaign in the former Yugoslavia. From 2001 to 2004 she was the Defence and Foreign Affairs Correspondent for EFE News Agency to the European Union and NATO. During that period she was also special envoy to Iraq and Afghanistan. Carmen has a degree in Journalism and Information Science from the Universidad Complutense de Ciencias de la Informacion de Madrid. In 1996, she received an award for Young Journalists by the International Press Association in Madrid for her coverage of the war in Chechenia.

Cynthia Brown currently serves as Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Digital Strategy within the Bureau of Public Affairs, overseeing a team of digital media practitioners and technical staff working to expand the reach of U.S. foreign policy messaging through web-based communication technologies.

Ms. Brown began her career with the U.S. Department of State in 2001, and previously served as Director of the Office of Digital Engagement responsible for overseeing the Department's flagship social media outreach. Prior to that, she was Acting Director of the Foreign Press Centers, where she oversaw the design and implementation of targeted media engagements with visiting and U.S.-based members of the foreign press corps.

Laura Miller currently works as the Director of Online Engagement in the Office of Digital Strategy. Previously, she worked for the Department of Labor, where she led the digital team in the Office of Public Affairs. Before that she worked at Edelman Public Relations and the 2012 Obama for America reelection campaign. She is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and hails from Woodstock, Illinois.

Fiona Bartosch heads the strategic digital targeting team at the Prime Minister's Office. The unit provides consultancy on PM priority communications with a particular focus on improving democratic engagement with under represented groups from outside the political bubble.

Fiona has twenty years experience in public and private sector communications including various departments in UK Government, corporate communications and the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

Carolyn Reams is the Social Media Lead and CIA.gov Content Manager for the Central Intelligence Agency. She has spent the last two and a half years in the Office of Public Affairs championing and implementing social media platforms for CIA. She has previously spoken about social media at national and international communication conferences. Prior to joining CIA Public Affairs team, she spent 12 years as the Deputy Director of the CIA Museum where, among her many varied duties, she was the content manager of the museum's presence on CIA.gov and managed a 20,000 piece collection of classified and unclassified artifacts.

An attorney and instructor of Digital Marketing, Emerging Technology, Crisis Communications and Social Media Law at the Rutgers School of Business, he is quoted by the likes of the Associated Press, CNN, Reuters, and MSNBC.

Steven Mehringer is Head of Communications Services in the NATO Public Diplomacy Division. Communications Services manages NATO HQ's entire digital content and audio-visual production chain to include NATOChannel.tv, the NATO website, the NATO Radio & TV Studios and NATO's Social Media outreach. Before joining the International Staff in August 2010, he served 3.5 years in Iraq with the U.S. Department of State as the Director of Broadcast Operations at the U.S. Embassy - Baghdad. He led the development of the embassy's critical broadcast facility and the Embassy Public Affairs Section's capacity for using communication technologies. Prior to his appointment in Iraq, he worked across the United States for 15 years as a broadcast news Journalist and Producer for NBC, ABC and FOX.

Ambassador Kerry Buck is the Permanent Representative of Canada to the North Atlantic Council. Ms. Buck (BA Hons, Political Science, University of Western Ontario; Common Law and Civil Law, LLB, BCL, McGill University) joined Canada's then Department of External Affairs and International Trade in 1991. She most recently served as Political Director and Assistant Deputy Minister for International Security and Political Affairs from 2011 to 2015.
