Doboj - It was a special occasion for Danish Maj. Joern
Lund, the Nordpol Battlegroup Press Information Officer, and his Polish
assistant, Capt. Sylwester Michalski, when they recently hosted a
visit by six journalists working for Lithuanian daily national newspapers
and television. They had come to prepare a story about the life and
conditions of the Nordpol soldiers, and their mission within SFOR.
Lund and his team were more than ready to assist. "This kind
of visit helps us to reach a wide audience," he said.
Having met Capt. Adam Wojcik, of A Company, journalist Rimas Bruzas,
a reporter for Rytas TV, asked Capt. Tomasz Sienko what the role of
his soldiers was.
"Presence patrols mostly, in the towns and villages in our area
of responsibility," replied Sienko.
Other questions concerned returnees and the elections in November.
The trip continued with a visit to the soldier's accommodations, to
see the provisions for their welfare and to the Battle Group Operations
Room.
What interested the journalists the most were various vehicles used
in the Battle Group and their armament. The journalists met the mechanics,
and they also saw the different kinds of weapons used by the soldiers.
At the end of the afternoon, Col. Jerzy Gut, Chief of Staff of the
Nordpol Battle Group, gave an interview to the reporters.
