Harvest campaign: the days after

Sarajevo - From May 6 to 8 the Explosive Ordnance Disposal
team from the German-Italian Battle Group's destroyed a large
quantity of explosive materials collected during the Harvest
campaign and various search operations of illegal weapons
performed by the 'Saluzzo' Task Force. The figures of those
materials have been enormous
just like the explosion
that destroyed them.

Camp Butmir - Every three months, the Joint Military Commission
meets under the chairmanship of COMSFOR. And every three months,
the press reports about the steps forward as far as it concerns
military matters. But this time, for its 40th meeting, there
were really solid and sound decisions taken, likely allowing
in the near future the formation of a Joint Command over the
Armed Forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

A golden Heart

Mostar - On May 6, members of the Spanish French Battle Group
(SPFR BG), delivered humanitarian aid, school and toys supplies
to different schools in Mostar. "Some sensations are
always difficult to describe but more when we can see that
our help and effort produce a great benefit in the local population
life," said Spanish Capt. Fernando Martínez Rebé,
member of the SPFR BG.

In Honour of their Fallen Comrade

Livno - A ceremony attended by local residents, dignitaries
and soldiers from the Canadian Battle Group was held on 10
May to mark the official opening of the Livno Valley Community
Centre. Mrs. Marley Léger came to Bosnia and Herzegovina
to be on hand to open the community centre in memory of her
husband Sgt. Marc Léger, who was killed in Afghanistan
last year.

SFOR detains a person allegedly
supporting PIFWCs

Bijeljina - On the morning of May 8, SFOR carried out an
operation in the area of Bijeljina. Information received suggested
that a house in that area was being used by people supporting
Ljubomir Borovcanin, a Person Indicted For War Crimes (PIFWC)
who is under indictment by the International Criminal Tribunal
for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).

Mostar Bridge is standing up

|
Mostar - The 30m-long, 20m-high, single-span Mostar bridge
known as 'Stari Most' was built by Ottoman Turk Architect
Mimar Hajrudin in 1566 of 456 blocks of stone. It was blown
up by Bosnian-Croat forces in November 1993. Old Mostar Bridge
was an UNESCO world heritage site, including eleven other
historical buildings constructed in Ottoman Turkish era. It
is under reconstruction by the Turkish Company ER-BU.

Bridge over the Ugar River

Vitovlje - The 4th Armoured Engine Squadron is assigned to
the Multinational Brigade Northwest (MNB-NW). The detachment
is stationed in Sipovo. During the second fortnight of April,
a platoon from the construction troop was deployed during
15 days on the Ugar River bank with the main goal of accomplishing
the de-launching of the 'Mannock Bridge'.

Austrian aid safely delivered
|

|
Doboj - From May 5th to the 9th, a joint Portuguese and Slovenian
convoy consisting of ten vehicles transported humanitarian
aid provided by the Austrian Non-Governmental Organisation
'Bauern helfen Bauern' from Salzburg to Doboj. There were
approximately 30 tons of foods, mainly high quality baby food
and school stationery to be distributed in the Area of Responsibility
of the Multinational Battle Group.

Atlas raises the world

Rajlovac - On May 8, personnel from the transport platoon
belonging to the German Service Support Company, located in
Rajlovac with members of the similar Italian unit from Tito
Barracks, performed the transportation of several Federation
Army Armoured Personal Carriers (APC). These vehicles were
stored in Sarajevo. They will be used as targets on the live
firing range at Glamoc.

Merlin works its magic

Sarajevo - Apr. 24, a British Royal Air Force Merlin helicopter
made multiple flights into downtown Sarajevo. The aim of the
mission was to transport air conditioning devices from Sarajevo
Airport to the roof of the Unitic Towers (formerly known as
Unis Towers) as part of the ongoing reconstruction work being
carried out there. It took three hours and 35 minutes.

Operation Paladin 03

Mostar - From April 28 to May 1, Multinational Brigade Southeast
carried out an operational rehearsal named Paladin in the
area of responsibility of the Spanish French Battle Group.
Some attached units participated in the exercise: one Italian
Company assigned to the German Italian Battle Group, one Canadian
Reconnaissance platoon from Zgon and several US and Canadian
helicopters.

How great it is flying together

Mostar - From April 28 to May 1, the Operational Rehearsal
Paladin II/2003 was held. As usual in this type of rehearsals,
helicopters are commonly employed. But this time Multinational
Brigade Southeast (MNB-SE) used other assets than its own.
One US AH-64 'Apache', one US UH-60 'Blackhawk' and one Canadian
Bell 412 were deployed to Mostar Ortijes' tarmac.

Canada strengthens its commitment

Rajlovac - The Honourable Suzan Whelan, Canadian Minister
for International Co-operation and senior representative of
CIDA (Canadian International Development Agency) paid a three-day
visit in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Her agenda included a visit
to a de-mining site in Rajlovac on May 11. She witnessed a
de-mining demonstration performed by members of the De-mining
Battalion of the Army of Federation.

Turkish oldies teach US rookies

Donja Hasic - US Soldiers from 1st Squadron, Troop A of the
167th Cavalry (Task Force North) recently conducted a joint
presence patrol with members of the Turkish Battalion Task
Force (TU Bn. TF) in the TF North Area of Responsibility.
Although this was not the first joint patrol that took place
in the TF North sector with this US contingent, it was the
first with Turkish soldiers.

Russians celebrate armistice of
World War II

Ugljevik - Alongside 300 soldiers from the Russian Military
Contingent, many guests from various institutions of Bosnia
and Herzegovina attended the 58th anniversary of the Allies
victory ceremony in Ugljevik. The main attraction of the morning:
a show by the Special Forces. The 'Spetnatz' daily train hard
to face any situation. The display of hand-to-hand combat
and neutralisation of an enemy proved it.

Soldier in the spotlight

Zgon - Canadian Master Cpl. Jeffrey Daley is 31 years old.
He was born in Victoria British Columbia but resides in Nanaimo,
on the western coast of Canada. He is currently posted to
Edmonton Alberta with the Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadian).
"This is my fourth time in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Each
tour I have been with the Reconnaissance Squadron," he
mentioned.
