Banja Luka - Many people have hidden talents or other hobbies that they partake in when not performing their military duties. For Senior Aircraftman Chris Dodds, 23, a driver with Tactical Supply Wing, his talent will probably make him famous. Chris, an up-and-coming DJ, brought trance to the Balkans and currently hosts a two-hour radio show entitled "Glass Half Full" every Sunday evening.

A new livelihood

 

Jajce - Before the war Vahid Kasumovic had a good job. He worked as a dental technician in a health centre close to Jajce. That was before the war. During the war he lost everything. Since then he has been trying to start his own company. Dutch IDEA (Integrated Development of Entrepreneurial Advice) gave him a chance to rebuild his livelihood.

License to confiscate for MNB-SE

 

Gabela - Jan. 16, Multinational Brigade Southeast carried out an operation in the Ammunition Storage Site located in Gabela. The aim was to seize surplus ammo, as a result of irregular movements without enough explanation. The control of weapon or ammunition storage is the responsibility of SFOR, which has the right to conduct inspections as it deems appropriate.

To boldly go where no one has gone before

 

Tuzla - As part of the recent restructuring in Multinational Brigade North, the Danish Tank Squadron has moved to Eagle Base after serving over seven years at Doboj. It is taking over an area of responsibility formerly maintained by the Americans. The squadron will assume responsibility for patrolling the municipalities of Tuzla, Kalesija, Osmaci and Zvornik.

Excellent Treatment

 

Rajlovac - The German SFOR Tactical Medical Unit under its Commander, Cdr (Navy) Dr. Detlef Iske, does a number of tasks. One of them is to run the modern field hospital at Camp Rajlovac, which ensures treatment for the SFOR troops stationed in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Surgical, internal and emergency treatment is guaranteed at all times, and all the requisite departments are involved.

SFOR inspects the GOF 'Cajavec' in Banja Luka

 

Banja Luka - On Jan. 17, 2003 Multinational Brigade Northwest carried out an inspection of a Government Ordnance Factory. A GOF is considered as a Government Facility, defined as any factory, process, plant, facility, workshop or undertaking, government or privately owned, used for the manufacture of military items or their repair. The company, named 'Cajavec' is located in Banja Luka.

CIMIC 'Ó la franšaise'

 

Nevesinje - During the last few months, the activities of the French CIMIC team mainly focused on the area of Nevesinje, and in particular towards Bosnian-Serb Displaced Persons. Conducted in close co-operation with military activities in the field, CIMIC (Civil-Military Co-operation) is supporting the actions of the Spanish French Battle Group in its new area of responsibility.

MATT pilot project

 

Banja Luka - Multinational Brigade Northwest (MNB-NW) Mine Awareness Cell has been providing Mine Awareness Training to children in schools as well as to military personnel in Bosnia and Herzegovina for many years. A gap has been identified however, when it comes to the general population. As a result, MNB NW tested a Mine Awareness Mobile Stand.

Sarajevo - In the previous issue, SFOR Informer published some (quite recent) pictures of the Sarajevo Airport during the last years. Thanks to the French military archives, your newspaper is now able to publish more pictures from the times of war. They pay tribute to men and women, of which eight were killed while defending the airport between 1992 and 1995.

Same mission, another team

 

Doboj - The NORDPOL Battle Group (NPBG) is history now. The last Commander of NPBG, Polish Col. Tadeusz Sapierzynsky, handed over his Command to Portuguese Lt. Col. Lima Pinto. This officer is now the Commanding Officer of the new Multinational Battle Group, comprised of 650 soldiers: 274 from Poland, 290 from Portugal and 86 from Slovenia.

Soldier in the spotlight

 

Chief Petty Officer German Navy (CPO GEN) Torsten 'Buffy' Krüger is a 44-year old member of the German CIMIC Company in Camp Rajlovac. He works in the CIMIC Office in Foca. He was born in Lübeck, in the northern part of Germany. Krüger began his military career in the compulsory military services. He now belongs to the German CIMIC Battalion from Nienburg.
