Canadian Artillery is leaving Balkans

Bihac - Since the beginning of the Stabilisation Force (SFOR)
mission in the Balkans, Canadian gunners were in Bosnia and
Herzegovina (BiH), with the United Nations Protection Force
(UNPROFOR), Implementation Force (IFOR) and finally SFOR.
Every six months artillery units rotated out serving their
time in BiH.

The crossfire of the Dragoons

Buna - Exercise DRAGON-02, took place July 22-24, 2002 and
was organised by the Spanish Cavalry Squadron 'Dragones de
Villaviciosa' (Dragoons of Villaviciosa), from the Spanish
Battle Group. This exercise was conducted to test reconnaissance
patrols, as well as introduce other procedures, materials
and sharing experiences.

Civil Affairs: the Army's middlemen

Suceska - Armed with a cell phone, a vehicle and the drive
to make a difference, Civil Affairs (CA) soldiers are helping
people who are displaced, as a result of the war in Bosnia
and Herzegovina, make a return to their communities. Without
help, the 1,140 displaced people of the Suceska village will
not be able to return home.

Target: health

Rajlovac - If you see a doctor or a veterinarian around you
in the dining facility, or in the bathroom, don't be scared.
On the contrary, you should be reassured, because all of them
work for the same target: your health. Day by day, they make
sure that there isn't any threat of danger for service member's
health while stationed in theatre.

NORDPOL troops working in Doboj

Doboj - The Nordic-Polish Battle Group is made up of four
different nations and is based in Doboj, a city located approximately
150 kilometres north of Sarajevo. This BG is unique as it
is the only one that is multi-national. The other BGs within
BiH are nation specific. This team of combined countries work
out of two separate camps.

End of mission

Trebevic - Since 1997, Mount Trebevic was famous and familiar
for military, and thanks to its aerial signals useful for
the local population. Once, a special way of life for the
French soldiers who were leaders on the site, but from now
on, each country in SFOR will be in charge of its own installation
in Trebevic.

Go on, HELBA
|

Visoko - HELBA is the abbreviation of the words Hellenic
Battalion. It is a theatre unit, in charge of transport to
the benefit of all SFOR troops. Its mission is to provide
wide transportation support in the theatre, to support the
Multinational Divisions and the National Support Elements
within all the country and to support civilian organisations.

Exhumations in Kamenica
|

Kamenica - "It's unbelievable, what people can do with
other people," said Staff Sgt. John Billings, squad leader,
U.S. Army, stationed at Forward Operation Base (FOB) Connor,
located near Srebrenica. Billing and other troops stand in
front of a mass grave near Kamenica, 15 minutes away by car
from Srebrenica.

Recovery process active in SFOR

Camp Butmir - Since 1996 many international and local organisations
have worked hard to enable families who have lost loved ones
during the war to have the remains of their missing family
members brought back to them. Professional men and women search
the mass graves trying to recover the mortal remains of those
who were killed during the war.

Here come the Latinos!

Trebinje - Sept. 6, 2002 the Spanish Marines from the Tactical
subgroup 'Soldado Luis' had guests in their camp of Duzi,
located near Trebinje: the Portuguese 1st Rifle Coy / 2nd
Infantry Battalion belonging to the Operational Reserve. Together
with elements of the French Battle Group they performed a
routine patrol in their Area of Responsibility.

Soldier in the spotlight

As a member of the Nordic Polish Battle Group (NORDPOL BG),
located in Multi-National Division North, in Doboj, Sgt. 1st
Class Allan Petersen, Danish Army, finds serving in Bosnia
and Herzegovina (BiH) all part of the day's job. His duty
is the second in command (2IC) of C squadron, NORDPOL BG,
tank squadron, 1st platoon.
