Welcome to the website of the Mission of the Republic of Uzbekistan to NATO. Please accept our appreciation for taking the time to visit our site and for your interest in being closer acquainted with Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan is a country home to an ancient civilization and it has a
very rich history. Everyone, studying world history from childhood, knows
such ancient cities as Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva. These cities are
inferior to none of the well-known centers of civilization in respect
of their historical and architectural significance. But I regret to say
that still very few people know that these world-famous cities, which
have been included in the UNESCO's official World Heritage List, are located
on the territory of Uzbekistan. The country, which is being a heir of
the Great Silk Road, has built an open democratic civil society and has
developed a market economy to ensure the well-being and adequate life
for every citizen of the country, irrespective of his nationality, faith
and convictions. I hope that having looked through our website, you will also receive necessary information on our cooperation with NATO - an organization which we believe has a large political potential to ensure stability and security not only within the European continent but also beyond its bounds. We consider our participation in PfP and EAPC as a way of strengthening
the independence and sovereignty of Uzbekistan, acquiring modern technology
and training highly qualified national military and civil personnel, and
as an important tool to be involved in joint efforts of the global community
aimed at the establishment of a common security and stability system. The main principles of the foreign policy of Uzbekistan are based on
our national interests, norms of international law, principles of equal
rights with partners and of mutual confidence and respect, as well as
on particularities of the nature and traditions of the Uzbek nation. We intend to be widely integrated into the world community and to participate
in the work of different international organizations with the purpose
of making our own contribution to the development of modern international
institutions and the maintainance of peace in the entire world. We are sure that only the development of multilateral, mutually beneficial relations with all the interested states and international institutions can be the ground for the creation of favorable conditions to strengthen stability and security in the world. This is not only our opinion, this idea has been proved throughout the history of humankind. As a reference, let me remind you the words of our countryman and world-renowned poet and philosopher of the Middle Ages Alisher Navoi: Know, all human kind: The greatest curse is enemity; the greatest blessing - amity.
