S T A T E M E N T
by the SEIMAS OF THE REPUBLIC OF LITHUANIA
ON THE ACTS OF TERRORISM AGAINST
THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania,
conveying its sincere condolences to the American people, the relatives of the
victims of the attack, condemns the horrendous acts of terror committed in the
USA. Nothing can justify terrorism, destruction of people and culture. We
express our solidarity with the United States of America at this difficult
moment for it.
The world has never seen a tragedy of such
proportions during the time of peace. There is no doubt that this is a challenge
to the whole civilised and democratic world, to freedom, the world community, to
principles of coexistence and humanism. This is an atrocious crime against
humanity.
The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania
declares that the State of Lithuania will join all international anti-terrorist
efforts and support decisions, which are needed to punish the terrorists and
neutralise their centres.
The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania is
convinced that no efforts should be spared in order to prevent that happening
again in any part of the world.
The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania is
hopeful that the democratic community of the world will continue its endeavours
aimed at progress, international security and welfare, which are necessary for
all the nations and all the people. Lithuania will also strive to resolve all
interstate problems in civilised ways, and will provide any possible
humanitarian aid.
The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania and
political forces represented in it express their solidarity with such a stance
of Lithuania and invite the citizens to maintain peace, show their understanding
and to support for the actions of the authorities which are necessary within the
country and outside its boundaries.
