NRDC-ITA celebrates the 151st anniversary of the Italian Army

On 4 May 2012 NRDC-ITA celebrated the 151st anniversary of the founding of the Italian Army with a ceremony hosted by Lieutenant General Giorgio Battisti, Commander of NATO Rapid Deployable Corps-Italy (NRDC-ITA).

The ceremony was attended by representatives of all the NRDC-ITA Contributing Nations and their Italian colleagues.  As well as military personnel, the ceremony was attended by the mayors of the local towns of Busto Arsizio and Solbiate Olona, with whom NRDC-ITA has close ties.

During the ceremony General Battisti highlighted the key role that the Italian Army played in the unification of Italy.  He further emphasised how the Italian Army continues as an example of Italian unity and national ethos and is a modern and dynamic force capable of operating either individually or in a multinational environment.

A message from the Chief of the Italian Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Claudio Graziano, was read out to all present and time was also taken to remember those who had lost their lives whilst in the service of their country.
