ISAF VIII takes on the mantle of NATO’s priority Mission
It is the will of the Afghan people to make their country a better place that leads Afghanistan to a better future. I now look to ISAF VIII to engage with determination and fortitude in marching along that path to success. Good luck.

Gen Del Vecchio leaves Italy to assume ISAF's Command
NRDC-IT Commander left Italy from the airport of Verona Villafranca in northern Italy the 1st of August late in the night. He was leading the last echelon of the Italian led HQ to reach Afghanistan where he’ll take over the mission’s command from Gen. Erdagi, NRDC-TU Commander.

A new contributing Nation: Bulgaria joins the NRDC-IT
NRDC-IT welcomes the arrival of a new member among the contributing nations: Bulgaria, starting from today, is the 12 th nation belonging to the HQ based in Italy.

First echelons depart for Kabul

Solbiate Olona, July 2005. Members of the Italian sponsored High Readiness Headquarters have started deploying to Kabul for assuming command of NATO’s mission in Afghanistan and form the next International Security and Assistance Force by the beginning of August.

Minister Cicu salutes HQ NRDC-IT on its departure for Afghanistan

Solbiate Olona 28 June 05. On the eve of its departure for Kabul to command ISAF VIII, this Headquarters has received an operational send-off from Minister Salvatore Cicu, under-secretary of state for Defence. Accompanied by The Chief of the Italian Army Staff, General Giulio Fraticelli and the commander of the Italian Operational Land Forces General Cosimo D’Arrigo, the Minister took the opportunity to officially open the Headquarters building of HQ NRDC-IT within “Ugo Mara” Barracks and to address the assembled military, their families and local dignitaries.

Future Chairman of US Joint Chiefs of Defence Staff visits HQ NRDC-IT
Solbiate Olona 25 May 05. HQ NRDC-IT has hosted a visit from General Peter Pace, currently Vice Chairman and designated the new Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Defence Staff. Accompanied by the former commander of HQ NRDC-IT and current Italian Deputy Chief of Defence, Gen Fabrizio Castegnetti, the visit marked the end of a week-long tour of Italian and Italy-based US military commands and Headquarters.

Commander Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (ARRC) visits HQ NRDC-IT
Solbiate Olona 19 Apr 05. This Headquarters has received a visit from Lieutenant General D J Richards CBE DSO, Commander of the Germany-based NATO Corps, which will share with HQ NRDC-IT an 18-month tour of duty in Afghanistan as HQ ISAF.

Solbiate Olona , Italy . More than three hundred students from local schools have peacefully “invaded” Ugo Mara Barracks, home of the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps-Italy. The visit is part of a 3-day programme, started on 8 March 2005, dedicated to the schools "Beato Contardo Ferrini” of Olgiate Olona, “A. Moro” of Solbiate Olona and “Bonvesin della Riva” of Legnano aimed at providing a better knowledge of the multinational Headquarters and its activities.

HQ NRDC-IT Begins Training for ISAF VIII

Solbiate Olona, February 2005. 6 months before this command is due to take over the NATO HQ ISAF mission in Kabul, the staff has begun a protracted period of training. This will ensure they are sufficiently prepared for the mission and address, as early as possible, the issues which they may face.

Milan, ITALY , 24 Jan 05. High Representatives from NATO HQ in Bruxelles, Italian Defense Staff in Rome and NATO Rapid Deployable Corps-Italy took part to a conference organized by the Journalist Association of Lombardy, with the support of NRDC-IT, in order to promote a better understanding of the Alliance’s transformation and changes after 11 September 2001.

NATO Response Force 3: End of tour as Land Component Command Role for NRDC-IT

Solbiate Olona, Italy. After six months spent on stand-by role, ready to be deployed within only five days notice, next 14 January NATO Rapid Deployable Corps Italy will end its tour of duty as Land Component Command for the third rotation of the NATO Response Force (NRF 3).
