
Born in 1963. After graduation from the military academy he was assigned as a company commander in Linz and Ebelsberg, as chief of public affaires and chief instructor for defence political education, and worked at the army NCO Academy in Enns. After the general staff officer course from 1997 till 2000, Brigadier General Starlinger was assigned as G3 to the Military Command Carinthia and later as Chief of Staff of the 7th Infantry Brigade. From 2003 until the end of 2007 he worked in the Military Staff of the European Union, where he was responsible for planning military capabilities within the European Security and Defence Policy. He was also assigned to the European Defence Agency.
Brigadier General Starlinger served many tours abroad, such as in Syria, Iran, Cyprus and Tajikistan.
In Austria, Brigadier General Starlinger is the Commander of the 7th Infantry Brigade. He is qualified Army high-altitude climber and Army paratrooper. He is an avid sportsman, but also enjoys cultural events ranging from the classical period to modern age.
