Major General Erhard Drews , German Army

Major General Erhard Drews was born on the 21 November 1952 in Müssen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. His military career began in 1971, when he entered service with 94th Tank Demonstration Battalion in Munster.

etween 1975 and 1982 he served as platoon leader, S2 officer and company commander 54th Tank Battalion in Wolfhagen. In 1982 he became S3 officer, Headquarters 2nd Mechanized Infantry Division, located in Kassel. The following year he completed the Army Command and General Staff Officer Course at the Bundeswehr Command and General Staff College in Hamburg.

In 1986 he was appointed G3 staff officer, 3rd Army Corps, Koblenz. Then, in 1987 he served as Assistant Chief of Staff, G3 Operations, 34th Armored Brigade, also in Koblenz, before assuming the position of Assistant Branch Chief Army Planning, Army Staff, at the Federal Ministry of Defense, in 1989. Two years later he was appointed Commander, 343rd Tank Battalion in Koblenz.

In 1992 he became a lecturer in military leadership and tutor, Army Command and General Staff Officer Course at the Bundeswehr Command and General Staff College in Hamburg.

Between 1995 and 1997 he served as Division Chief, Assistant Chief of Staff, G3, Operations, Military District Command III/7th Armored Division in Düsseldorf, before becoming Branch Chief, Bundeswehr Planning, Planning Staff, Federal Ministry of Defense, in 1997.

In 2000, he was appointed Commander, 34th Armored Brigade in Diez on the River Lahn; during that time, from December 2001 to May 2002, he was deployed as Chief of Staff, MND  SE SFOR in Mostar, Bosnia-Herzegovina. After this, he became Deputy Commander, Airmobile Division in Veitshöchheim.

In 2003 he was appointed Chief of Division IV, Organization, General Army Office. The following year he served as Chief of Staff, General Army Office until August 2005 when he was appointed Commander, Bundeswehr Center for Transformation. In 2009 Major General Drews was appointed, Commander, Airmobile Division.

Major General Drews is married and has two children.
