Transfer of TIM Sites Inspection Responsibility from KFOR to MESP

Today’s ceremony is a significant milestone in Kosovo’s development and further demonstrates the continued close cooperation between the Institutions of Kosovo (IiK) and KFOR. The Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning (MESP) will now begin to take responsibility for the inspection and safe management of most Industrial Toxic Materials (TIM) sites Kosovo-wide, thereby providing a safer environment for all the citizens of Kosovo.

Exercise Balkan Hawk

On 30 June 2011, KFOR and EULEX conducted the latest version of the regular joint exercise “Balkan Hawk”. However, unlike previous years, units of the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) also participated in the exercise, within their legally defined competencies, for the first time. The exercise was conducted simultaneously in two separate areas – Djakovica Airfield, in the west of Kosovo, and Camp Vrello, near Pristina Airport.

Together for progress: KSF visit the Slovenian Contingent in Pejë

On 01 June 2011, a delegation of eight Non-Commissioned Officers and enlisted personnel of the Kosovo Security Force (KSF), led by Command Sergeant Major (CSM) OR-9 Fetah Zejnullahu from Land Forces Command (LFC), visited the Slovenian Contingent at Camp "Villaggio Italia" in Pejë.

Canadian Support for Local Charity

On Friday 13 May 2011, the Pristina Centre for Rehabilitation, Mother and Child received a significant donation of €3,500 from a Canadian Charity called “Boomer’s Legacy”. The donation was made by Commander Stacey Wiper of the Canadian Navy, who is currently serving with HQ KFOR in Camp Film City in Pristina, on behalf of the Canadian Task Force, Pristina.

First KSF NCO Conference

The Kosovo Security Force (KSF) held its first NCO conference on Tuesday 29 March 2011 at the Land Force Command (LFC) in Pristina Barracks. This represented another major milestone in the progress of the KSF. Brigadier General Enrico Spagnoli, Chief Military Civil Advisory Division (MCAD) in KFOR and Major General Rahman Rama, LFC Commander, KSF, attended the conference. Also in attendance were members of MCAD staff and a number of Sergeant Majors, both from KFOR and KSF. Brigadier General Spagnoli, in his opening address, stressed that the NCO Corps is the backbone of a military organisation and it is vital that senior NCOs take the initiative.

Disbandment Ceremony of MNBG-N

On Monday 28 February 2011, Kosovo Force Commander (COM KFOR), Major General Erhard Bühler, presided over the disbandment ceremony of Multinational Battle Group North (MNBG N) in Camp Maréchal de Lattre de Tassigny near Novo Selo.

Deployment brings families together

CAMP BONDSTEEL, Kosovo – Deployments are a difficult time for soldiers and their families. While deployments often separate families for a year and sometimes longer, there are rare occasions where family members are deployed together and it helps in creating a stronger bond. Colonel Marta Carcana and her son Specialist Elias Montanez, both from Puerto Rico, are able to be close to each other in KFOR.

KFOR builds Bridges

While building bridges has always been a metaphor for peace, in recent months KFOR reconstructed bridges in Gjakove/Dakovica, Vushttri/Vucitrn and over the river Klina for the citizens of the village of Llausha. However a major undertaking began when NATO HQ released on 07 October 2010 final approval for the donation of a bridge to Pakistan, in accordance with NATO Office of Resources (NOR) recommendations.

Following the disbandment ceremony of Multinational Battle Group South (MNBG S) on 20 January 2011, it was necessary to conduct the Transfer of Authority (TOA) of the Austrian and Swiss Transportation Company and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Teams, from MNBG S to the Joint Logistics Support Group (JLSG).

Handover of Sector 1 of the Kosovo Border with the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM)*

On 22 January 2011, in a historic occasion, Kosovo Force Commander (COM KFOR), Major General Erhard Bühler, handed over the policing of Sector 1 of the Kosovo border with the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) to the Kosovo Police. The ceremony was conducted in the ‘Batcave’ in Film City and was attended by many dignitaries. The dignitaries were led by COMKFOR, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Kosovo, Mr Bajram Rexhepi, the Minister of Internal Affairs of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Ms Gordana Jankulovska and the Deputy Head of Mission EULEX, Mr Andy Sparkes. Also present were the Command Group of KFOR plus high ranking officers of the Kosovo Police, the Kosovo Border Police, Montenegro Border Police and Albanian Border Police.
