On 14 January 2010 in Camp Vrelo, the Multinational Specialized Unit (MSU) Regiment conducted the Crowd Riot Control (CRC) Exercise.
The main goal of CRC was to train and test the response of the MSU against an attack of rioters. The scenario was set in an urban environment and included a hostage capturing. According to scenario, the MSU had to prevent the growing excitement of the crowd, scatter the rioters and set free a hostage.
The exercise started as a peaceful demonstration on the road. During this initiation stage the crowd suddenly got exited, took one hostage and held him inside a house.
In order to free the hostage, one MSU platoon moved against the rioters, who were protected by barricades and threw stones and other objects on the law enforcers. But the “turtle” immediately performed by the platoon, the barricade dismantle with the “RG12” armoured vehicle and the final platoon’s charge reached the goal to send rioters away. One part of the MSU platoon supported by the Special Intervention Group went into the house and set the prisoner free. Then, under an escort, they brought him to the ambulance and give medical assistance.
A few minutes later, when the platoon reached the vehicles and established security on the spot, the exercise ended.
This CRC was a good opportunity for the soldiers to train and practice their tactical skills. Now they know how to make the best respond.
