The 1st Tactical Group under the command of LTC Gianfranco Fedele (IT-Army) it is the main part of Task Force Aquila (COL Donato Federici, IT-Army) and one of the biggest KFOR Battle Groups.

The 1st Tactical Group has six operational units (squadrons/companies) and one command and support platoon.

The 1st Tactical Group operates in Kosovo since July 2004. It is composed of three "Recce Squadrons" belonging to the 5th Cavalry Regiment "Lancieri di Novara", one Cavalry Tank Coy of 132nd Tank Regiment, one Parachute Coy belonging to the 183rd Parachute Regiment and one Romanian Mechanized Infantry Coy. The cooperation between the Italian and the Romanian soldiers is excellent.

The 1st Tactical Group operates in the AOR (Area of Responsibility) of MNB (SW) in the region of Pec and Klina.

In its AOR there are also different Serbian patrimonial sites, like the famous Pec Patriarchate and the monastery of Budisavci, and some Serbian resettlements: Gorazdevac, Belo Polje, Bica, Grabac, Vidanje, Siga and Brestovik.

On beside of the protection task, another very important task of the 1st Tactical Group is to run vehicle and foot patrols in major cities and villages of its AOR. Further checkpoints on main roads, search operations and CIMIC projects.
Search operations have been achieving remarkable outcomes. Since July 2004 soldiers of the 1st Tactical Group found more than 40 weapons, 2000 rounds of ammunition and various military equipment.

All the squadrons/coys have also carried out operational helicopter boarding training in cooperation with Task Force Ercole in Dakovica Airfield and CRC (Crowd Riot Control) training with other MNB (SW) Task Forces.

In order to guarantee a safe and secure environment in its Area of Responsibility the 1st Tactical Group has been conducting successfully operations in order of MNB (SW) HQ and a lot of joint checkpoints with UNMIK-Police and KPS.
Regarding the CIMIC projects, many humanitarian aids (foods, toys, clothes) have been distributed towards the poor families living in Pec, Klina, Gorazdevac and in the surrounding villages.

Another important initiative is the teaching of Italian language in the schools of Pec and Gorazdevac by the officers of the Tactical Group.

"To help K-Albanian and K-Serbian people to learn the Italian language also means to be closer to local population and this is very important for our daily work in Kosovo as well as it is a way to share common values and to increase our mutual culture knowledge" said LTC Ginfranco Fedele, Commander of 1st Tactical Group of Task Force Aquila.

All these good results have been also made thanks to joint activity with Task Force Aquila S5 Cell.

"Sure of our daily mission we will carry on our work until January 2005 with the maximum dedication and determination" finally said LTC Ginfranco Fedele.
