COMKFOR Lt Gen Fabio Mini briefs SG Kofi Annan

On Nov. 19, Commander of KFOR, Lt. Gen. Fabio Mini, briefed the United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Annan, in closed talks that lasted over 40 minutes, on the KFOR mission, security situation, force reductions, unfixing strategy and transfer of responsibilities to UNMIK and local institutions.

The UN SG, whilst thanking KFOR for the excellent cooperation with his Special Representative and the United Nations Mission In Kosovo, commended the phased reduction and showed interest in all security aspects including Mitrovica and the borders.

The KFOR delegation visiting with SG Annan consisted of COMKFOR, Deputy Commander Major General Perruche, Deputy Commander of Operations Major General Korte, Political Advisor Mr. De Sitter and Diplomatic Advisor Ambassador Plaja. UN representatives also in attendance included Mrs. Annan, USG DPKO Guehenno and PDSRSG Brayshaw.

SG Annan expressed his great satisfaction with the cooperation of KFOR and SRSG/UNMIK. As this was the only way in which to proceed, he advocated continued regular consultations.
