By captain Alain Pahaut
Pio Belurokos

STARI TRG - A-COY - BELUROKOS 10 sent instructors to KPC barracks in STARI TRG. The aim was to conduct the first mutual training and instruction session between KFOR and KPC.

Early in the morning, soldiers from A-Coy BELUROKOS 10 prepared to meet in the KPC barracks in Stari Trg to start the first instruction between BELUROKOS 10 and KPC. KPC Col. Bajrami gathered his men together for this session. Within 2 hours, KPC members learned about Map Reading techniques, how to use the scale, how to determine a grid, and how important altitude lines are.

1Sgt De Schepper was the "ice breaker". Assisted by an Albanian interpreter he started the instruction on behalf of the KPC.

"First of all, it was a challenge for me. It was also a very interesting experience. I was positively surprised that these guys were very interested and co-operative during the lesson. Although there was an important difference in knowledge between the "students", all of them were very satisfied at the end of the instruction. One of the questions they asked me was how I felt about them. I told them that I was positively surprised and that I had a good time during the instruction".

In the meanwhile, mechanics of BELUROKOS 10 checked the vehicles of the KPC.
One of them was Adjudant Eyckmans, who said: "Well, they have two vehicles, a jeep (AUVERLAND) and a truck (SIMCA). Both vehicles are of French origin and in good condition. The problem is that these vehicles are very old and not in production anymore. So it is very hard to find spare parts for the engine. The instruction manuals are also missing. So, we were not able to help them a lot. Our liaison officer is going to contact our French colleagues to help us find spare parts."

In the near future, BELUROKOS 10 will continue to organize more training and instruction periods for the KPC in order to assist in the efforts of reconstructing the civilian structures of Kosovo.
