U.S. Service Member Killed in Eastern Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan –An International Security Assistance Force service member was killed today as a result of a mortar attack that occurred in eastern Afghanistan.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with this service member’s loved ones as they grieve in this most difficult time,” said Brig. Gen. Eric Tremblay, ISAF spokesperson.  “His contribution to improve the conditions of the Afghan people was significant and we will never forget his sacrifice.”

U.S. Press Officer Capt. Jon Stock confirmed the service member was from the United States. 

ISAF is a key component of the international community’s engagement in Afghanistan, assisting the Afghan authorities in providing security and stability and creating the conditions for reconstruction and development.
