Amman, Jordan, 02 November - The Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Giampaolo Di Paola, concluded a 3-day working visit to Egypt and Jordan. The goal of the visits was to reinforce the cooperation between NATO and its partner countries involved in NATO’s Mediterranean Dialogue programme. In Cairo, the Chairman met with General Sami Annan, Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces. He also had the opportunity to meet General Mohammed El-Assar, Senior Advisor to the Minister of Defence of Egypt as well as representatives from the Egyptian Ministry of Defence, with whom he discussed several aspects of its ongoing cooperation with NATO.
In Amman, Admiral Di Paola met with General Khalid J. Al-Sarayreh, Chief of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces, to discuss the implementation of the current Individual Cooperation Programme. He also paid a visit to the “King Abdullah II Special Operations Centre” and gave a lecture at the Jordanian National Defence College (JNDC) entitled “NATO, towards a New Strategic Concept” . The Mediterranean Dialogue was initiated in 1994 with the broad objectives of contributing to regional stability and security, achieving better mutual understanding and dispelling any misconceptions between NATO and its Mediterranean partners. In order to meet today's security challenges, regular consultations, coordination and cooperation among different international actors are increasingly important. |
