"Visit of Gen. George Jowlan to Zagreb"


The Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), General George Jowlan, arrives at Zagreb International Airport in Croatia, Camp Pleso prior to several local meetings including one at the Croatian Presidential Palace. US Army Lt. General William G. Carter Implementation Force (IFOR) Chief of Staff, will also hold a press conference at the United Nations Headquarters Zagreb, Croatia. The meetings will deal with the status of the Implementation Force (IFOR), which is responsible for ensuring the former warring nations of Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia honor the Dayton Peace Accord producing a cease fire and permanent borders.

On signing the Dayton Peace Accord a cease-fire and borders for the renewed nations were agreed upon. Implementation Force (IFOR) troops are in place now to maintain peace and the new boundaries between the countries of Bosnia-Hercegovina, Croatia, Macedonia and Serbia.
IFOR consists of different nations accepting different areas of responsibility. British and German Military personnel are working together as part of the IFOR throughout Croatia. At a Croatian Naval Base in Split the German and British are setting up shop. The Germans are performing operation checks and the British are downloading vehicles and preparing equipment.
