Snow storms in Albania

During the last few days Albania has been hit by persistent low temperatures and massive snowfalls.

The remote areas of Northeast and Southeast of Albania have experienced some unusual precipitations and nearly half of Albania is under snow. These weather conditions were not seen since 1985. Snowstorms and blizzards have had heavy impact on these areas, endangering life of citizens. Many communes have been cut off and could only be reached by aerial means.

There are heavy winter conditions on many national roads and snow chains must be used in some segments. Other communal, rural and uncategorized roads are partly blocked and emergency snow removal activities are undergoing. Snow removal equipment’s, graders, retrofitted trucks or snow blowers are operating. In some areas loading and hauling of the snow needs to be undertaken.
