Earthquake in Georgia

In the early morning of 8 September 2009, an earthquake occurred in the Oni Region in the South of Georgia. It measured a magnitude of 6 on the Richter scale at the epicentre (80km north-east of Kutaisi City), and it caused large scale damages to buildings.

Georgian authorities estimated that around 6000 people had been affected by this earthquake and launched an urgent disaster assistance request through NATO's Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC).
