First call on NATO-Russia hotline
The new NATO Secretary General, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, made the first
call on a new, secure NATO-Russia hotline on 12 January, as part of his
round of courtesy calls to NATO and partner countries.
Mr. de Hoop Scheffer spoke briefly to Russian Defence Minister Sergei
Ivanov, officially inaugurating the new line.
The direct and secure link between the Secretary General and
the Russian Minister of Defence was established in December. It is a
further
practical contribution to an ever-deepening NATO-Russia relationship.
