On 07 October 2001, the United States launched a military campaign against Al-Qaeda and the Taliban in an effort to eliminate their safehavens in Afghanistan.

Soon after, a NATO-led security mission was established, which has since grown to 49 troop-contributing nations.

Today, as the transition process continues to evolve and Afghan Security Forces increasingly take the lead in securing more areas of the country, NATO Review looks back at how much progress has been made in the last ten years in Afghanistan through the personal testimony from those directly affected, and looking ahead to the prospects of a post-transition Afghanistan.
