Foreword
NATO has been transforming since its founding in 1949. It is currently in the midst of its post-Cold War, post-9/11 transformation from an Alliance focused on defending Europe to a broader security provider prepared to deal with new threats wherever they may come from.
Sten Rynning looks at what choices the Alliance must take if it is to renew itself.
Admiral Giampaolo di Paola gives an Italian view of transformation.
Mario Bartoli examines progress in improving Alliance capabilities.
Robert Bell examines the challenges of setting up the NATO Response Force.
