Defence spending by category
The statistics represented graphically below represent the proportion of defence spending of each NATO member devoted to personnel, equipment, infrastructure and other areas. They come from the document Financial and Economic Data Relating to NATO Defence that the Alliance releases once a year and can be found at www.nato.int/docu/pr/2001/p01-156e.htm. In view of the difference between NATO's definition of defence spending and national definitions, the proportions may diverge from those quoted by national authorities or given in national budgets. Data relating to France is indicative only because France does not belong to the integrated military structure and does not participate in defence planning. Iceland has no armed forces.
