
Brigadier Anton TURK was born 10 December 1951 in Novo Mesto, Slovenia.
Since 1973, he has lived in Vrhnika in the vicinity of Ljubljana.
He graduated from the Teacher Training College in Ljubljana, and from Human Resources Management at the Faculty of Organisational Sciences in Kranj.
In 1977, he completed the Reserve Officers School and was posted to commanding officer duties in the reserve units of the former Yugoslav Federal Armed Forces. He was charged with different military duties, from platoon leader to battalion commander. His last position was the Chief of Staff in the HQ of the infantry brigade.
In 1992, after the Slovenian War for Independence, he joined the Slovenian Armed Forces as a regular service member. He began his military career in the Slovenian Armed Forces as the Commander of the Armed Forces Training Centre in Vrhnika.
In 1994, he was appointed the Head of the Conscript Training Department in the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces. In 1996, he was appointed the Chief of the Office of the Chief of General Staff.
In addition he was ADC to the President of the Republic of Slovenia during the period from 1996 to 2003.
In 2001, he was appointed the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces with the position rank of Major General. Many of the activities in this capacity were related to the transformation of the Slovenian Armed Forces, restructuring of the military education and training system and in particular, the accession process into NATO and EU by active participation in the Slovenian Inter-Ministerial Working Group.
In February 2004, Brigadier Turk was appointed to the National Military Representative in the NATO Allied Command of Operations. He took over the position in October 2004.
In February 2006 he has been appointed to the Military Representative of Slovenia to NATO and EU with the position rank of Major General.
Brigadier Anton Turk has attended various forms of civilian and military education and training in Slovenia and abroad, especially in Germany and in NATO.
In the year 2000, he successfully graduated from the General Staff Course of the Slovenian Military Education Centre, the highest level of military education in the Slovenian Armed Forces.
Brigadier Turk has been awarded the Silver Medal of the Slovenian Armed Forces in 1993, Bronze Medal of General Maister in 1996, Silver Medal of General Maister in 1998, Golden Medal of the Slovenian Armed forces in 2003, Golden Medal of General Maister in 2004 and the Order for 10 Years of Service and has been awarded with Golden Medal of Slovenian CHOD in 2005.
In 2002 he has been awarded the French Medal “Ordre National Du Mérite”.
He speaks English, German, Croatian, Serbian some Russian and Macedonian.
He is married to his wife Zora, and has raised two daughters. One of the daughters joined the Slovenian Armed Forces in 2001 and was commissioned in 2003.
