General Czesław PIĄTAS

Born on March 20, 1946 in Germany.
In 1968 he graduated from Armour Officer’s School. After commission, he served on the variety of command and staff positions in armour units. From 1980 to 1986 he was a commander of tank regiment and a chief of staff – deputy commander of the 10th Armoured Division.
After graduation in 1982 from the Academy of the General Staff in the Soviet Union, he served as G-3 director in the Silesian Military District HQ, and next as a commander of the 4th Mechanised Division.
In 1992 he was promoted to Brigade General.
From 1993 he served in the staff position in the Silesian Military District HQ, and later assumed position of the chief of staff - DCG of the Warsaw Military District.
In 1996 he was appointed as chief of the Operational and Strategic Division in the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces.
In 1999, BG Czesław Piątas graduated from U.S. National War College (NDU) and was appointed the Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces. In August 1999 he was promoted to Major General.
On September, the 28th 2000 was appointed the Chief of General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General.
On August, the 15th 2002 promoted to the rank of General.
General Piątas is married to Danuta. They have two children.
He is interested in military history and tennis.
